Friday, Jan. 27th - Feast of St. Angela Merici
Since my first parish assignment was at St. Angela Merici in Florissant, I have always had a special devotion to this saint who died in 1540.
Saint Angela Merici did two things that may seem small now but in her time (16th-century Italy) were huge: She organized a group of single laywomen to teach the uneducated girls of her town. In her time, very few women had any schooling, let alone became teachers, and the ones who did have some education were nuns, who, like other unmarried women, rarely went out on their own. Her community eventually became the Ursuline religious order. It’s easy to ignore the fact that things people now take for granted came about because of someone who had a daring idea and the courage to carry it out. Their example can also serve to inspire you as well to take a bold step to do good in the world.
This Sunday we begin our annual observance of Catholic Schools Week. We are very proud of our Catholic Grade School. Jesus is the reason for our parish school. He is the unseen but ever present teacher in our classrooms. Our mission is to... prepare students in faith... with knowledge... for leadership... to serve others... to prepare them for discipleship. I encourage parents of pre-school children to call our school office for further information: 314-487-2522 x200
If the Catholics Come Home campaign has inspired you (or someone you know) to "come back" to church, let me know. I, of course, would like to offer a personal word of encouragement and welcome. Also it would be nice to annonymously let others know of their experience.

Our Year Long Celebration Continues
WELCOME BACK, FR. THOMAS KELLER
|

|
| |
As part of our year long 50th Anniversary celebration, we have invited former pastors and associates to come back and celebrate Mass with us. Next Saturday, February 4th, Fr. Thomas Keller, former Associate Pastor, will be here at the 4:30 Mass. Below is a letter from Fr. Keller.
“When I recall my time at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, I think of life as a newly ordained priest. I arrived in June of 1997, about a week after my ordination to the priesthood. Father Stehly (now Monsignor!) and Father Knaup (God rest his soul) welcomed me warmly. I marveled at Father Stehly’s ability to administer such a large parish without any signs of stress and Father Knaup’s invariable daily routine of early Mass, a trip to Dierbergs, morning TV, lunch, and nap…
Meanwhile, I loved to go over to the grade school to cause commotion in the classrooms with immunity from correction from the teachers, train the altar servers, organize activities for the youth group and visit the sick and homebound. I had weddings almost every weekend and I baptized crowds of babies every few Sundays. I’m proud of the teens we took to Washington, D.C. for the March for Life each Janaury.
One of the highlights was being able to integrate parishioners into special roles during pope John Paul II’s visit in 1999. Most of all I recall with gratitude those families who welcomed me into their lives, several are still part of my life today!
Sadly, I was transferred in 2001 and started a new part of my life and priestly ministry at the Cathedral Basilica. But I still love St. Margaret Mary and all those special people who showed me patience and love when I was newly ordained!
